Manuscript, in a single hand, with numerous corrections, of a history of Maximilian de Bethun by a writer with Protestant leanings, who declares of Maximilian's brothers Salomon and Philip, "we shall find them in the sequel of this work to have been bigotted Papists." The work is divided into six "books," covering Maximilian's life from his escape from the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre in 1572 to his role in the Edict of Nantes in 1598. The volume begins with an introduction by the author which announces that "The materials of the followings History of Maximilian de Bethune...[have been] chiefly taken from four Volumes of the State collections, commonly called the Duke de Sulli's Memoirs."
